Moving Time Clock Clients
When running the Virtual TimeClock Network Edition, there are times when a client time clock may need to be moved to another computer. This could be due to a number of reasons, like the computer crashed or there's been changes in office personnel. Whatever the reason, the goal is to move the client program without disrupting business operations. Here are a few tips to make that happen.
The most common issue customers have is installing the wrong client version. If the current time clock client is still available, you can check this by selecting About Virtual TimeClock from the Help menu on a Windows PC and the Virtual Time Clock menu on Mac. This will also allow you to verify if the client program is a Pro or User Client. Now quit the time clock client and uninstall it.
Launch the Virtual TimeClock Server Manager program and click Licenses. Select and remove the computer name that corresponds to the old time clock client. This will allow the new time clock client to connect to the time clock server.
Download and install the correct Network Edition time clock client. If you need a prior version, select Prior Releases in the upper right corner. Just complete the installer and you'll be prompted to connect to your time clock server.
Follow the above steps and your new time clock client will be up and running before the next punch.

Moving Virtual TimeClock Made Easy
Moving employee time clocks can seem intimidating at first, especially when you don't know the first step. You may find it necessary to move your computer time clock to another computer that offers more convenient access to all your employees, like a break room or employee entrance. Or you may need to move your time clock software to a different computer because of hardware failure or personnel changes.
Here's a quick overview:
- If you're moving Virtual TimeClock Pro or your Virtual TimeClock Server, you'll need to make a backup of your database.
- After creating the backup file, you'll need a method of transporting your database file to the new computer, like a USB flash drive.
- Download your edition of Virtual TimeClock onto the new computer and restore the database.
- Activate your software license on the new computer.
We've got detailed instructions for moving employee time clock software on our website, including what to do if hardware failure prevents you from creating a backup file.
Moving is not so bad, especially when you don't have to pack any boxes!

Lost Your Time Clock Software License?
If your computer time clock crashes or you just need to move your time clock software to a different computer in order to make it more convenient for employees to punch in and out, then you'll need a copy of your most recent software license key. Your software license key is emailed to you shortly after purchasing or renewing your time clock software maintenance and support.
If you've lost, misplaced, or deleted your registration information, don't worry! We keep great records. Contact us with your company name and the software product you need to register, and we'll be happy to provide you with a copy of your software license key. Meanwhile, go ahead and get your time clock software moved to that new computer. Virtual TimeClock will run in evaluation mode until a valid program license key is entered.

Moving and Upgrading Your TimeClock Server
We have easy to follow instructions for upgrading your time clock software from any prior version of Virtual TimeClock. However, if you're planning on moving your version 5 TimeClock Server to a new server computer at the same time, you'll need to know where your version 5 data file is located.
Documents>Virtual TimeClock User Data>'Your Company Name' folder>'Your Company name'.vtc
Just copy the .vtc file onto the desktop of the new server so it's easy to find when you run the TimeClock Data Converter utility.

Moving Your Time Clock Software
I hate moving. Packing, unpacking, don't scratch the furniture! We've made it much easier to move your Virtual TimeClock software to a different computer by using the backup and restore function that's built right in. Visit the FAQs on our website for step-by-step instructions.
Just remember that Virtual TimeClock remembers all Clients that have ever connected to the TimeClock Server, so you'll need to remove the registered Client that's no longer in use if you're running the Network Edition and need to move a Client.
Alright, back up the U-Haul!
